Living in quarantine may seem uneventful but that doesn’t mean I can’t invent new ways to spice up my days at home. I’ve narrowed my focus from the extremities of the COVID-19 situation and instead have used this time as an opportunity to become a better version of myself which in my mind is improving my holistic wellness: mind, body, and spirit. My previous post on holistic wellness dives into this concept a little deeper. However, today I want to talk about how I am bettering my body. I will talk about mind and spirit in the following blog posts making this a series.
Body
Recently, nutrition and an active lifestyle are on the forefront of my mind. I used to be very active as a collegiate athlete but since then have stopped focusing on exercise and diet like I should be. I’m not saying that calorie counting and following online workouts solely makes me a better person but it does allow my body to feel better. I want to practice mindfulness on food and routine exercising to better my life in my appearance, sleep, energy, and overall mindset about myself. Goal #1 is to rekindle my relationship with my body.
Yoga, Pilates, and Aerobics
I am grateful for the single experience I had with a studio called Spark Yoga in San Luis Obispo. They had an intro offer that allowed one free class for new students which was unfortunately the only time I was able to visit the studio before COVID-19. They are however offering classes online on their website. I enjoy doing at-home workouts so I’ve been able to try their Ashtanga Yoga, Barre, Sculpt, HIIT Pilates, and a few other classes. They really do provide incredible workouts for all skill levels. If you’re wanting to try yoga, I recommend giving them a try!
Beach Body LLC and YouTubers
Insanity and Turbo Fire have kept me on my toes. Now I don’t do these workouts as much as I probably should be doing for the weight I am trying to lose, but my boyfriend’s sister suggested I try a YouTuber named Chloe Ting. So while I put Beach Body on hold for the moment, I have been doing Chloe Ting’s two-week shred program. I was laughing at first before trying the videos, but it it incredibly difficult to continually do her workouts. It brings me back to the fun athletic days when the burn of the workouts felt good and I was sweating terribly.
